This website contains my fingerstyle guitar arrangements of mainly
 traditional Irish tunes, my own compositions, plus some other tunes,
and is dedicated to the memory of my late father Dennis Rogers who
encouraged me to develop it as an archive resource.
My passion for Irish music, especially the compositions of the harpist
Turlough o'Carolan, inspired me to set up this website to share my
fingerstyle guitar arrangements with other guitarists.
Since it's launch in April 2001 it seems to have appeal,
not only to guitarists, but also to people who appreciate Irish
music and simply enjoy listening to the MIDIs.
These MIDIs, which are all free, were sequenced by me from my
solo guitar TAB files, as audio samples and they're each between
two and four minutes in length.

I'm Davy Rogers and I arranged and tabbed all the tunes in this archive.
I'm available for bookings as a melody player on dobro,
tenor banjo, mandolin, fiddle and whistles,
and as an accompanist on guitar, piano and Irish bouzouki.
I've been playing guitar for over fifty years and
arranging tunes for the guitar for thirty years.
Before the advent of PCs and TablEdit I used to painstakingly draw my
guitar TABs out by hand, in ink, on a drawing board (I'm an architect).
Having three of my arrangements published in Mel Bay publications'
"The Deluxe Anthology of O'Carolan Music" [CD and Book]
(edited by Stefan Grossman and John Renbourn)
encouraged me to arrange further tunes and share them with other
guitarists through this website archive. Contact me and you can download
my guitar arrangements, of traditional Irish jigs, slip jigs, slides, reels,
mazurkas, hornpipes, airs, marches, barndances, world music
tunes, O'Carolan compositions, and my own humble compositions,
arranged and tabbed in TablEdit. For ease of playing these tunes I've
used open guitar tunings in almost all my guitar arrangements.
These are all available here FREE as MIDIs and MP3s.
In the MIDI and MP3 files each tune is usually played 3 times at a normal
playable speed. I've also highlighted many tunes here as suitable for
beginners and have made these available to download for free.

ALL THE TUNES IN THIS ARCHIVE WERE ARRANGED USING

TablEdit is a program that allows you to create, edit, print and
listen to tablature and standard notation for guitar as well as an
assortment of other instruments. TablEdit can open/import music from
a wide variety of file formats created by TablEdit or other programs.

Your music can also be saved in a number of formats.

TablEdit will also allow you slow down the playback without lowering the pitch.

This is a BIG bonus for learning a piece of music, as you can gradually
increase the speed as you become more familiar with the tune/arrangement.

To view the TABlature you can order from me you'll need to download the demo
of the Tablature Editor program TablEdit or it's FREE tablature viewer TEFview

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When you click on the  button in the archive your browser
will download the selected MIDI tune and, if you have configured your
PC properly, playback the tune with your system's configured MIDI player.
If the MIDI (.mid format) file doesn't play, you'll need to
install a Media Player capable of playing MIDI files.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I recommend VLC player for playing MIDI files.

I also recommend Soundfont MIDI Player for playing MIDI files.

You can download it for free from HERE

Soundfont MIDI Player is a powerful freeware midi player and

real time midi synthesizer combo. It features fully configurable
MIDI in & out ports, and variable tempo and pitch during playback.
Google search for free (preferably guitar) soundfonts on the web.
Download them and add them to Soundfont MIDI Player's options/settings.

Once set up you'll start to experience a rich guitar sound which

is much easier on the ear than the native Windows MIDI sound.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The bundled "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth" MIDI out device is
mono sound only, has no reverb or chorus effects or support,
and has been removed from the latest Windows 10 builds.
VirtualMIDISynth by CoolSoft is an excellent freeware
replacement and can be downloaded for free from HERE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For Windows users: Your overall PC sound can be even more improved

by using freeware such as DFX Audio Enhancer
 which can be downloaded for free from HERE

DFX dramatically improves the sound quality of your favourite
programs and websites with 3D Surround, higher fidelity, booming
bass and more, providing exceptional playback quality on your PC

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For both Linux and Windows users: VLC Player is able to play MIDIs
but you will need to download fluidsynth and some soundfonts
and configure them within the player
I thoroughly recommend the above versatile softwares - Davy Rogers
  What is "Fingerstyle Guitar" ?
Fingerstyle guitar is the technique of playing the guitar by plucking the strings directly with the fingertips, fingernails, or picks attached to fingers, as opposed to flatpicking (picking individual notes with a plectrum / flatpick).
What are "Guitar TABs" ?
Guitar tablature or TAB consists of a series of horizontal lines forming a staff (or stave) similar to standard notation. Each line represents one of the instrument's strings. Therefore standard guitar tablature has a six-line staff and bass guitar tablature has four lines.
The top line of the tablature represents the highest-pitched string of the guitar. By writing tablature with the lowest pitched notes on the bottom line and highest pitched notes on the top, tablature follows the same basic structure and layout as Western Standard or Staff Notation.
The numbers that are written on the lines represent the fret used to obtain the desired pitch. For example, the number "3" written on the top line of the staff indicates that the player should press down at the third fret on the high E (first string). Number "0" denotes the nut — that is, an open string.
What are "MIDIs" ?
 A MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) is a computer
synthesizer  generated sound sample sequence (basically a sound file). MIDIs are small in memory size.
